Earthquake-like tremors rock Bengaluru | India news

BENGALURU: Mild earthquake-like tremors occurred in Bengaluru and surrounding areas on Friday (November 26) for a few seconds creating fear among the people. However, the official statement from the Karnataka State Center for Natural Disaster Management (KSNDMC) made it clear that the seismographs showed no signs of localized earthquakes and earthquakes.

People in Bengaluru’s Rajarajeshwarinagar, Kingeri, Kagalipura, Hemijipura and Yeshwanthpur localities experienced mild tremors for a few seconds. They also noticed big bumps and noises.

Reports of tremors associated with light tremors were received between 11.50 am and 12.15 pm shortly before that, loud noises were observed in neighboring Mandya and Ramnagar districts as well. Strong and light tremors were recorded near Jigani and Anekal in the outskirts of Bengaluru at 12:30 pm.

Geologist Prakash said, “Although it is a light and small incident, we will have to do studies. We have to study it and we cannot take it lightly.”

He explained that there is no relationship between the earthquake and the continuous rain in the state capital. Bengaluru was last hit by a moderate earthquake in the year 2011. Earlier, on many occasions, people had tremors due to the movement of fighter jet flights which made a sound effect.

However, the KSNDMC release stated that “data from our seismographs were analyzed for any potential seismic or earthquake signatures during the time period. The seismometers show no signs of a localized tremor or earthquake.”
