Earthquake hits Tamil Nadu

Highlights: A 3.6-magnitude earthquake shook Vellore, Tamil Nadu. According to the National Center for Seismology, the quake had a depth of 25 kilometers. So far, there have been no reports of damage.

A 3.6-magnitude earthquake was felt by residents on Monday in Tamil Nadu. The quake was reported at 4.17 a.m. and its epicenter was at a depth of 59 kilometers west-southwest of Vellore in Tamil Nadu, according to the National Seismology Centre.

The depth of the earthquake was 25 km. So far, there have been no reports of damage.

Earlier on Friday, a 6.1-magnitude earthquake shook the northeastern region, including Assam and Mizoram.

The quake was felt in many parts of West Bengal, officials said, adding that no loss of life or property damage was reported so far.

Officials said the tremors occurred in several places in Assam, Mizoram, Manipur and Tripura, as well as in West Bengal, including the districts of Kolkata, Alipurdwar, Darjeeling and Jalpaiguri.
