Earthquake strikes near Corinth

The city of Corinth in the Greek Peloponnese was shaken by a slight tremor after an earthquake shook the region, measuring 4 on the Richter scale on Sunday evening.

According to the Institute of Geodynamics of the Athens National Observatory, the epicenter was 27 kilometers northeast of Corinth and 53 kilometers northwest of Athens.

The last earthquake, recorded three weeks ago, occurred 19 km west of Preveza province.

The earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 km below the epicenter near Preveza, Preveza, Epirus, Greece, on the morning of Wednesday, December 8, 2021, at 9:49 am local time.

In mainland Greece, a natural fault causes earthquakes of magnitude 7, while in the northern Aegean, slip events of magnitude 7.2 have been recorded. Earthquakes of medium-large depth (>50 km) of magnitude greater than 7 have been recorded from within the African Slope Plate but such events cause minimal damage, although they are widely felt.
