According to SCDNR, 10 earthquakes have been reported across the state since November 24.

“It feels weird,” Barbara Tremblay recalls.

Tremblay knows earthquakes firsthand having recently lived in California.

Now in Greenville, she says earthquake insurance isn’t on her radar.

She explained, “I’ve never thought about earthquake insurance, and I’ve never really felt like the Earth is moving here. I think that’s a good reason in my mind.”

Chris Arthurs of Arthurs Insurance has a few clients covered.

“You can add it to your existing policy or you can buy a separate policy,” he said.

People in the north of the state are not immune to the effects of earthquakes across the region.

If there is damage, an average of hundreds of dollars can buy you earthquake insurance in South Carolina.

“Although it may be as small as the risks are, the cost is minimal. However, in the event of an earthquake if you were to spin and your house was collapsing as a result of an earthquake, you would lose,” Arthurs said.

While the cost of the document is low, the discounts are high.

It ranges from five to 25 percent of the home’s total value depending on how it is made.

“Attacks are sometimes a deterrent,” Arthurs said.

He says when deciding whether or not to get earthquake insurance, you should consider how much risk you are willing to take.
