Thomas and Virginia Eugenbo celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on May 28, 2020.

Thomas and Virginia met and married in Iroquois, S.D. The marriage took place at the home of Virginia’s sister farm. The house still stands today with some rebuilding.

Tom and Virginia came from large farm families. There was no work to be found in South Dakota in 1950, so Tom and Virginia soon went to Florida in 1931 Chevy Coupe looking for work. No work was found in Florida, so they headed to California in 1951.

Tom worked for Douglas Aircraft and then moved to TWA. Retired 27 years after TWA. While living in Torrance in 1983, the couple bought a lot in Bear Valley and began building their home for five years. In 1990, they became permanent residents and had lived in their home for 30 years next November.

Tom and Virginia have two daughters, one son, five grandchildren, and three grandchildren. In 1990, the family reunion was organized in South Dakota where Tom had 11 siblings with many of his nephews and nieces. The family is reunited every two years since. There was a special celebration in 2018 as Tom reached 90 years old. They feel sad that because of the epidemic, there will be no reunions this year.

When they arrived in Los Angeles, they knew nothing about city life. They quickly learned about the earthquakes when they suffered the Tehachapi earthquake in 1952. They ran out and saw the buildings swaying and they didn’t know what was going on. It was strange for them!

They like to live in Tehachapi. They enjoy dining at the Country Club, watching wildlife, and enjoying the four seasons offered by Tehachapi. Virginia belongs to a craft group for years, and it’s a perfectly flower gardener. Tom was working as a radio operator, and his gardening experience was an experience that many BV residents enjoyed. He designed a train of shrubs that is best known for in Bear Valley.
