Disaster officials in Phuket monitor Nicobar tremors

Phuket: Phuket officials are keeping a close eye on the frequent tremors in the Nicobar Islands, about 440 kilometers west of Phuket, in case people in coastal areas need to be warned of a tsunami.

The most recent earthquake reported by the non-governmental Phuket Seismological Monitoring and Monitoring Center was at 9:17 pm last night (April 10), with a magnitude of 4.8 and hitting about 40 km. The earthquake is the seventh in recent days.

The tremor was later modified to be recorded as 5.1.

This earthquake was preceded by another, initially recorded with a magnitude of 5.1, at 8:34 pm last night, which struck about 400 km west of Phuket at a depth of only 10 km. The tremor was later upgraded to 5.5 on the Richter scale.

Just three hours ago, at 5:43 pm, another tremor of magnitude 4.7, later revised to 5.0, struck 440 km west of Phuket at a depth of 10 km.

Yesterday’s tremors began with one at 8:32 am, initially recorded with a magnitude of 5.0, but later revised to 5.2, and struck 450 km west of Phuket at a depth of 10 km.

Disaster officials in Phuket have not issued any tsunami alerts or warnings for the area, but they are monitoring the situation closely.
