Toyota announces a record rise in global production for the month of March despite the domestic decline | Force 790 KFGO

TOKYO (Reuters) – Toyota Motor Corp on Wednesday set a record high global output in March, as overseas production offset a domestic decline, highlighting the impact of factory shutdowns and weak consumer demand in Japan.

Japan’s largest automaker produced 866,775 vehicles worldwide in March, marking a 2.8% increase over the same month last year and a monthly record.

But Toyota saw a roughly 16% drop in domestic production, to 261,759 vehicles. I had a cyber attack on one of its suppliers during the month that brought all local factory operations to a halt for one working day.

Domestic production is likely to be seen as further evidence of the weak state of the Japanese economy, which is struggling with rising costs and slow growth.

Toyota’s domestic production was hit after a 7.4-magnitude earthquake in northeastern Japan hampered the supply of spare parts. The operations of the collective automakers Hino Motors and Daihatsu were also affected.
