Hamas vows to carry out suicide attacks with an “unprecedented response” if Israel targets its leaders
The Palestinian Hamas movement threatened on Saturday to return to suicide bombings and “burn” Israeli cities if Jerusalem resumes its policy of targeted assassinations of prominent terrorist figures.
“We will burn cities in [the country’s] And Hamas, according to public radio Kan, quoting Hezbollah’s Al-Mayadeen channel, warned of a center and launch of missiles at Tel Aviv and Gush Dan if Israel acted with its threats that exceed the imagination of the enemy.
“The return of assassinations means the return of explosive operations to the interior [Israeli] Sources told Al-Mayadeen that Hamas informed Egyptian mediators.
The organization’s military wing also issued a threat of an “unprecedented response” and a “regional earthquake” if Israel tried to harm any of its top leaders, especially Gaza leader Yahya Sinwar.
Abu Obeida, a spokesman for the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, said that the May 2021 war between the two sides “will be nothing but an ordinary event compared to what the enemy will witness.”

Some Israeli lawmakers and analysts have called for Sinwar’s killing in response to the current wave of terrorism, prompted by the coastal strip, especially since three Israelis were killed in a terrorist attack in Elad on Thursday.

Abu Ubaidah also vowed that Israel would pay “blood and destruction” for such a strike.
Israeli intelligence has carried out many targeted killings over the 74-year history of the country. The tool’s use peaked during the second intifada when Israeli forces ousted Hamas leaders in an attempt to stem a wave of attacks in Israeli cities.
A security source, quoted by Hebrew media, denied Hamas’ threats, describing them as “hysterical.”
“Their response in the past few hours reminds us all of those who begged for a ceasefire” during the fighting last May, the source said, adding that the statements only illustrate how “deterrence” Hamas is.
The terror group’s threat came after Israeli officials indirectly warned that Israel might respond to Hamas for encouraging a series of deadly terrorist attacks in recent weeks.
While Hamas has not taken responsibility for most of the attacks since March 22 that left 19 people dead in Israel and the West Bank, Sinwar has repeatedly called on Palestinians to attack Israelis and the movement has publicly praised the perpetrators and encouraged more attacks.
The terror group also claimed responsibility for an attack that killed a security officer guarding the West Bank settlement of Ariel on April 29.
According to Channel 12 news, diplomatic and security officials conveyed a message to Sinwar that Ariel’s attack, along with his messages of advocating terrorism, gave Israel freedom to respond militarily in Gaza.
The letter also included a personal threat to Sinwar, who was described by Israel as a “supporter of terrorism” who could be reciprocated.
The network stated that the message was sent to Sinwar before two Palestinian terrorists armed with a knife and an axe attacked people in downtown Elad on Thursday night, killing three men and wounding seven others.

The suspects, Asaad Yousef Asaad Al-Rifai, 19, and Subhi Imad Subhi Abu Shkeir, 20, are not believed to be Hamas members, but they may have been inspired by Sinwar’s speech urging Palestinians and Israeli Arabs to do so. Haaretz newspaper, quoting an unnamed security source, said that the terrorist attacks were carried out.
Hamas said the attack was a “heroic operation” in retaliation for a visit by Israeli Jews to the Temple Mount earlier on Thursday.
In a speech on Saturday, Sinwar threatened violent consequences if Israelis continued to visit the site.
He also urged the Palestinians to hit the Israelis with everything they had – including the axes. “Let everyone who has a rifle ready. If you don’t have a rifle, get ready for the cleaver, the axe, or the knife,” Sinwar said.
Palestinians and Israeli forces have clashed frequently on the Temple Mount over the past few weeks. The violence echoed scenes from last year when riots at the site helped spark a war between Israel and Gaza-based armed groups led by Hamas.
Since the May 2021 war, Hamas, which seeks to destroy Israel, has threatened to fire missiles at Israel if it violates the organization’s “red lines” in Jerusalem. The movement hailed its “deterrence” against Israel in the contested capital as a major achievement of the war, which wreaked widespread havoc in Gaza.
In the wake of the attack on Elad, Israeli security officials extended until Sunday the closure of the West Bank and Gaza — which was imposed on Tuesday afternoon, before Memorial Day and Independence Day, and was supposed to end Thursday night. Friday.
Meanwhile, it was reported that Egyptian officials worked during the past days to mediate between Israel and the Palestinian factions in Gaza to prevent an escalation of violence.
According to the newspaper, “Haaretz”, the Palestinian factions demanded that Israel reduce the entry of Jews to Al-Aqsa Mosque and reopen the border crossings between Israel and Gaza, quoting the Palestinian newspaper Al-Ayyam.

In return, the Gaza factions will refrain from resuming firing rockets at Israel and maintain calm in the region, according to Haaretz, adding that the talks began several days before the terrorist attack in Elad.
The report also mentioned that the Gaza factions warned Egyptian officials that “talking in Israel” about the assassination of prominent terrorist figures paves the way for “another round of escalation.”
Al-Ayyam quoted a Palestinian source as saying that there are issues that have not yet been resolved, namely, “Israel’s refusal to stop armed operations in the West Bank and inside the country.”
According to Haaretz, the talks continued until noon Saturday.
