It’s good to be on the right side of the score for once. Sporting Kansas City took a win that wasn’t always 2-1, but the three points count for themselves regardless. But at what cost? Sporting KC heads into its fifth game in 15 days over seven days in 21 days. They piled on injuries and suspensions, too. They will have two players back, Roger Espinosa and Robert Fulder, but they will lose two other players, Andrew Fontas and Daniel Salloy.

The club will hit the road to face the San Jose Earthquakes, who are one point ahead of them in the standings in the West. What goes up, must come down. right? Sporting KC will probably rise a bit higher knowing they were able to bounce back from the loss to Portland and pull off a gritty win at home. However, they are back on the road with no win (0-6-1) in the season. They also face a very capable team in Quakes in front of the net as they have 22 goals (compared to SKC’s 12. The positive thing is that Quakes allowed their worst 28 goals in the league.

I’ve said here in recent weeks that I need Kansas City to show me something to give a more optimistic prediction. They scored one goal on Wednesday night but both goals came from Daniel Saloy who is now suspended. They played Johnny Russell until it seemed like his leg wanted to fall off. Khairy Shelton was called into question midweek but will definitely be needed at the weekend. And it’s hard to imagine Nikola Vujnovic playing after falling into a pile, even if the Achilles tendon injury wasn’t what it originally appeared to be.

I desperately want to be wrong, but the road ahead for this team is awful and I’m afraid they’ll need another cache-type and counter approach so they can get some healthy bodies back. It can work, but they really need to sign up first.
