The Data History Museum reimagines museums by launching the world’s first NFT-supported collection of earthquake artifacts

Built on the Algorand blockchain, the first of a series of historical data history artifacts to use the US Geological Survey’s open API to create real-time assets originating from earthquakes around the world.

The Data History Museum is set up to produce NFT artifacts of all major historical events as they happen. For example, the initial implementation creates an NFT for every major earthquake that occurs worldwide. Through automation that takes advantage of data from the US Geological Survey’s Open API, the NFT minting of each earthquake is automatic and real-time, and also includes important event-related metadata such as the magnitude, depth, longitude, latitude of the site, and more.

Before now, historical artifacts were physical objects containing data that could be extracted to verify their authenticity and historical significance; Data that cannot be reproduced artificially. This quality of verifiable exclusivity – or immutability – is part of what qualifies the thing as an authentic historical artifact.
