The Patterson Foundation has contributed $250,000 to the Center for Disaster Philanthropy’s (CDP) Global Recovery Fund to bolster medium- and long-term recovery efforts following the two devastating earthquakes that struck Venezuela in June. The earthquakes caused widespread devastation throughout La Guaira, Caracas and surrounding communities, destroying tens of thousands of buildings, displacing thousands of residents and claiming the lives of more than 3,500 people as of 6 July. The Fund focuses exclusively on meeting medium- and long-term needs in the aftermath of international disasters, ensuring that communities receive support throughout the recovery process and not just in its immediate aftermath.
