Sen. Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Goo returns to Samal Island to check on the living conditions of its residents, assuring them of the continuation of his public service.

The senator said he once again visited the Island Garden City of Samal in Davao del Norte on May 27, 2022 to offer them support “during these trying times.”

On May 24, Team Go provided similar assistance to Samaleños from Barangay Bandera, Adecor and Sion.

Gu said he went to different parts of the country like Batanes to help earthquake victims in Jolo, Solo, to help fire victims.

“This is my promise to the Filipinos. I will visit you as long as my time permits,” he said in a statement in Filipino.

Go staff distributed groceries, vitamins, meals and T-shirts to a total of 3,134 residents, consisting of fishermen, the elderly and the destitute from the villages of San Isidro, Población Capotean and Libertad.

The activities were held in covered courts in accordance with health protocols to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

Go also gave bicycles, tablets, watches, and shoes to select recipients while also giving basketball and volleyballs to select youth members to encourage them to engage in sports.

He urged residents to get vaccinated against Covid-19 as he made contact with those who need medical care.

They can avail medical assistance from Malasakit Centers at Southern Philippines Medical Center in Davao City or Davao Regional Medical Center in Tagum City.

The centers aim to make medical assistance programs by partner agencies accessible to poor and destitute patients by placing all related agencies under one roof.

Malasakit centers were institutionalized by Republic Act 11463, which Go authored and sponsored in the Senate.

President Rodrigo Duterte signed it into law in December 2019.

To date, there are 151 Malasakit centers nationwide.
