I felt a small earthquake in the Kamas area

Camas Wash (KPTV) – A small earthquake of magnitude 2.8 may have been felt by residents in Vancouver and the Camas area on Monday evening, according to the US Geological Survey.

The earthquake occurred just before 7 p.m. at a depth of approximately two miles, along the Lakamas Lake Fault in Fern Prairie.

“Suddenly the house was just shaking for a second or two, but it was so massive that we got up and looked outside, and I’m looking forward to seeing something do that hit the house,” said Susan Goetz, who felt the quake. “It was worrisome because it’s your house and it gurgles. I didn’t know if it was a support beam or if that loud noise was having an effect on the house and on us.”

Goetz says she experienced several large earthquakes while living in California but was not expecting an earthquake here—the first she felt in nearly twenty years in the Pacific Northwest.

So far in 2022, there have been three earthquakes in the Pacific Northwest with magnitudes of 2.5. On February 5, Castle Rock experienced a magnitude 2.8 earthquake, the Lebanon earthquake had a magnitude of 2.6 on March 18, and Molala experienced a magnitude of 2.7 on May 25.
