Earthquakes expect huge crowd from California Clasico vs Galaxy

The San Jose Earthquakes announced last week that they have sold more than 30,000 tickets for the June 25 California Clasico against the Los Angeles Galaxy at Stanford Stadium.

Even with a large crowd expected for the competition match, tickets for the match remain available as the maximum capacity of Stanford Stadium is 50,424.

Next Saturday’s match between Earthquakes and Galaxy will mark the 10th anniversary of the first Clasico in California to be played at Stanford Stadium. The two teams met at PayPal Park in San Jose last season as Stanford was unable to host the game due to COVID-19 restrictions.

The 2021 game in San Jose was the first for Quakes with no attendance restrictions since March 7, 2020. A crowd of 18,000 watched Galaxy defeat Quakes 3-1.

Despite having the second lowest overall average attendance in the MLS at 13.132 per game according to Soccer Stadium Digest, Earthquakes’ average attendance is still higher this year than the two prominent Bay Area professional sports teams.

The San Jose Sharks were ranked 29th out of 32 teams with an average attendance of 12,573 during the 2021-2022 season at the Saab Center while Oakland Athletics attract an average of 8,283 fans per game at the Colosseum.

The average attendance of an A is the worst mark for any of the top 30 clubs in the league. The Miami Marlins were ranked 29th with an average crowd size of 11,127.
