Following reports of tensions, the British Chief of Staff has stepped down

 



The UK’s top official, Sir Mark Sedwill, who advises Boris Johnson on national security issues, is taking the plunge. He is leaving in September, when it can be said that the Civil Service has been hit hard. There have been reports of tensions between Sir Mark and Prime Minister Dominic Cummings over the handling of the coronavirus pandemic and plans to reform Whitehall. The announcement comes ahead of a speech by the prime minister on Tuesday, where the government hopes to rebuild the UK economy after the coronavirus blockade is completed.
