If the current COVID-19 environment teaches anything, it is that the crisis could strike Los Angeles with a sudden and devastating effect. Last year, during the July 4th holiday, as minds headed for a long weekend of barbecues and fireworks, millions of southern California residents felt the strength of an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.1 in Ridgecrest, California. Satellite imagery showed cracks of 13 feet wide caused by a rift cutting parts of the highway, and bursting water pipes and clearly evolving desert vegetation. Since then, the region surrounding Ridgecrest has experienced other earthquakes and earthquakes, including a 3.6-magnitude earthquake on June 10, 2020.
