Two earthquakes hit eastern Samar

A 4.4-magnitude earthquake struck eastern Samar on Wednesday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said, followed by another earthquake of similar magnitude two hours later.

The first earthquake was detected by the Phivolcs at 2:16 am and its epicenter was located 12 kilometers southwest of Homonhon Island, Guiuan, east of Samar.

The depth of focus of the first tectonic earthquake was 13 kilometers.

State seismologists report Intensity II at General MacArthur, east of Samar.

The second tectonic earthquake was detected by the Phivolcs at 4:20 am, with its epicenter nine kilometers east of Maslog, east of Samar.

The second earthquake has a focus depth of 16 km.

The Phivolcs reported Intensity III for Maslog and Arteche in eastern Samar, and Intensity II for Oras in eastern Samar.

Phivolks said he does not expect aftershocks and damages for any earthquake.
