The National Seismology Center (NCS) has increased observation in the area around Protak, Haryana – Center of 18 out of 29 “minor” earthquakes that have been recorded in the National Capital Region since April.

Scientists are trying to ascertain the extent of earthquakes in the region by installing more seismometers and calculating the energy emitted every time the earth vibrates.

With more seismometers, scientists will be able to track earthquakes with very low scores, even less than 1.8, which were the lowest recorded on Rohtak four times in June.

“With so many small earthquakes occurring in an area in a short period of time, the possibility of a bigger earthquake is less,” said J. Gautam, a scientist at NCS.

Rohtak is part of NCR and is about 80 km from India Gate in New Delhi. The Mahendragarh-Dehradun Geological Rift – a fracture in the Earth’s crust rocks – is near the city. Gautam said the error appears to be currently active.

During the earthquake, the rock slides on one side of the rift regarding the other side. He said: “A certain amount of energy is released in each earthquake, depending on its size, and a greater number of seismometers will help reveal the number of earthquakes that occur around Rohtak.”

Gautam said that three temporary seismic sensors or seismometers have been installed around the city last week in addition to a permanent device that has already been installed.

But for the time being, activity in the region appears to have declined. The NCS web dashboard shows that no earthquake has been recorded since June 30 in the area. The last earthquake that sent strong tremors to Delhi was 4.7 on July 3 and was centered in Alwar, Rajasthan.

“The last earthquake may be the result of a malfunction in the Aravalli chain. In the case of Rohtak, it appears activity has decreased … but all this is normal and does not indicate, or rule out, the possibility of a larger earthquake.
