In response to the devastating earthquake that struck West Java, Indonesia, in late November, AMDA Indonesia dispatched a medical relief team to Cianjur Regency near the epicenter.

On November 25, the team drove to the village of Tongilis in relief vehicles, one of the remote communities where no help had reached at the time. The relief staff consisted of 19 aid workers from Ciawi Regional General Hospital in Bogor, West Java (five doctors, seven nurses, a pharmacist, two radiology technicians and four coordinators).

Because some of the stranded communities were difficult to reach by car, the team had to reach evacuation shelters on foot through muddy trails. Upon his arrival, the team immediately began providing medical consultation services to the affected population.

On the 26th of the following day, the team also visited Pasir Sina, another village in the same district, to continue the relief work.

In all, the team attended to the needs of about 700 people in two days, of which 301 people received medical attention. Symptoms such as fever, diarrhea, respiratory illness, and body aches were commonly seen among patients. Medicines were also provided as needed.

On the 27th, the team visited Kario village to deliver relief items. In addition to food items including instant noodles and milk, they also provide soap, toothbrushes, shampoo and other daily necessities.

The mission was completed after holding a set of relief activities. However, AMDA Indonesia is coordinating possible assistance for post-disaster reconstruction as more than 110,000 people are still forced to take refuge.
