4.2 earthquake off the coast of Malibu shakes Los Angeles

Los Angeles County was hit early Wednesday morning after a 4.2-magnitude earthquake struck 10 miles off the coast of Malibu, according to the US Geological Survey.

The initial 2 a.m. quake with a magnitude of 3.5 was reported just three minutes later, followed by a magnitude of 2.8 at 2:22 a.m. and a magnitude of 2.6 at 2:38 a.m., the USGS said.

“This morning’s M4.2 earthquake off the coast of Malibu is a reminder that we live in #earthquake country,” Los Angeles County Emergency Management said in a tweet.

According to the US National Tsunami Warning Center, there was no threat of a tsunami.

The Los Angeles Fire Department went into “full earthquake mode” and conducted a citywide assessment early Wednesday morning. The LAFD said on its website that there were no reports of injuries or damage and that the agency had resumed normal work.

A USGS map showed the quake was felt as far north as Oxnard and as far south as Long Beach. California emergency services offices said in a tweet that an emergency alert was sent from the MyShake app, an earthquake early warning system, to residents, warning them that an earthquake was expected and that it would stop, fall and cover.

Residents across Los Angeles reported on social media that they were startled by the wave of earthquakes.

“Awesome,” actor Josh Gad tweeted.

“It was the biggest one I’ve felt in a long time,” said Jenice Spiteri, an Olympic figure skater, on Twitter.

Other residents reported being woken up, and some reported falling asleep during the event.

An average of 25 earthquakes of magnitude between 4.0 and 5.0 occur annually in California and Nevada, according to a recent three-year data sample.

The first quake occurred at a depth of about nine miles. Did you feel this earthquake? Consider reporting to the USGS how you felt.

Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence. Drivers are no longer required to get quotes from just a few known insurance companies. Also, local and regional insurers can provide lower insurance rates for the same services. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history. Lying about past driving incidents can make the price estimates to be lower, but when dealing with an insurance company lying to them is useless.
