However, Twitter users flagged the post saying there is no scientific basis for earthquake predictions. “There is always a chance of earthquakes in places with active faults, but specific predictions do not perform better than random when tested. Are earthquakes expected?

Predicting earthquakes means telling conclusively about their date, time, location and strength.

According to the USGS report, scientists never expected such a huge earthquake. They can only predict the probability of a major earthquake hitting a specific location over a specific period of time.
