As of June 20, 2026, the Disaster Response Operations Monitoring and Information Center of the Ministry of Social Development (DROMIC) reported that 1,608,057 individuals or 376,544 families had been affected by the earthquake. This number covers 627 areas across the Zamboanga Peninsula (Region 9), Davao Region (Region 11), Soksargen (Region 12), and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Islamic Mindanao (PARM), making it one of the largest disaster response operations in Mindanao in recent years.
Despite ongoing relief and recovery efforts, thousands of residents remain unable to return to their homes due to safety concerns, damaged structures, and continuing aftershocks.
Department of Social Welfare and Development data showed that 23,028 individuals from 5,288 families are currently staying in 52 evacuation centers set up by local government units. Meanwhile, 63,351 individuals or 16,673 families are temporarily living with relatives or friends or in other locations outside evacuation facilities.
The earthquake also left a huge trail of destruction in the affected communities. The authorities recorded the destruction of 15,039 homes, while 69,537 homes were partially damaged, which confirms the enormous rehabilitation and reconstruction challenge facing local governments and affected residents.
In response to the disaster, the Department of Social Welfare and Development has so far provided humanitarian aid worth P318.65 million to affected communities. The assistance consists of family food packages, hygiene kits, sleeping kits, financial assistance, and other emergency relief items distributed through local government units and partner agencies.
The ministry said relief operations are still ongoing as assessment teams continue to verify the validity of reports received from the affected areas and identify additional needs among displaced families.
To ensure preparedness for prolonged response operations, the Department of Social Development reported that it has P4.42 billion worth of relief resources available, including rapid response funds and food and non-food stocks strategically placed in warehouses nationwide.
Besides providing food and shelter, the agency also focused on addressing the psychological and emotional impact of the disaster. Department of Social Welfare and Development records show that 307 beneficiaries received social protection services, including child-friendly space interventions, while 130 individuals underwent psychological first aid.
Those staying in evacuation centers include infants, young children, pregnant women, the elderly, people with disabilities, indigenous people and other vulnerable sectors in need of specialized assistance and protection.
Government agencies continue to coordinate relief distribution, damage assessment and recovery programs as affected communities begin the long process of rebuilding homes and livelihoods. Authorities also urged residents to be vigilant in anticipation of possible aftershocks and to follow safety guidelines issued by disaster management agencies. Defender
