A new 5.6-magnitude earthquake has struck Turkey, killing one person and injuring 110, according to authorities.

The country’s disaster management agency, Avadh, said more than two dozen buildings were destroyed and 32 injured people were rescued.

The disaster comes three weeks after earthquakes measuring 7.8 and 7.6 struck the southern provinces, killing more than 44,000 people in Turkey, and more than 50,000 people across the country and neighboring Syria.

The epicenter of the new earthquake was in Yesilyurt district in Turkey’s southeastern Malatya province – an area previously hit by the previous quake.

“It is important not to enter damaged buildings in the area, and it is important not to be around dangerous buildings,” the Disaster and Emergency Management Agency warned on Twitter.

Yesliurt Mayor Mehmet Cinar told Haber Turk TV that a father and daughter were trapped under the rubble of a four-storey building after they entered to collect belongings.

Its teams have been dispatched to the area, the disaster management agency said, where 650 workers are involved in ongoing search and rescue operations in seven buildings.

Aftershocks continue to be a safety hazard, with a total of 9,136 aftershocks having occurred since Feb. 6, when the initial quakes hit, according to the agency.

The Disaster and Emergency Management Authority said in a statement that more than 500,000 people have been evacuated from 11 affected provinces in Turkey, including Malatya.

More than 160,000 buildings collapsed and 184 people suspected of involvement were arrested.

Residents criticized Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for the slow response to the initial earthquakes.

Presidential and parliamentary elections are scheduled for June.

A delegation from Turkey’s Supreme Electoral Board will draft a report on whether they can be held practicably in the quake zone – which was due to start collecting materials from quake-affected areas on Monday.
