Turkish President honors Israeli rescue workers who saved lives after the earthquake

(April 26, 2023 / JNS) A Certificate of Appreciation from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was handed on Tuesday to the commander of the IDF’s National Rescue Unit, Col. (ret.) Golan Fach, who led the Israeli rescue mission. She helped locate survivors and provide assistance during the recent earthquake in southern Turkey.

The Israeli rescue mission was among the first to come to the aid after the earthquake and succeeded in rescuing 19 survivors from the rubble. The IDF sent 230 medical and emergency response experts to set up a field hospital in Kahramanmaraş, as well as 150 members of the Home Front Command team.

The IDF delegation was supported by emergency medical specialists from the Ministries of Defense and Health, Fire and Rescue Services, Magen David Adom, United Hatzala and Zaka, among others.
