In Pompeii, archaeologists have discovered two skeletons that they believe belong to men who died when a wall collapsed on them during the powerful earthquakes that accompanied the eruption of Mount Vesuvius.

The skeletons were discovered at an excavation site known as Casti Amanti.

According to Gabriel Zuchtrieg, director of the Pompeii Archaeological Park, the two were men who worked in an area that was not a posh part of Pompeii, and may have been involved in building projects using stucco and water-filled flasks.

He said that the bones showed various fractures and were mixed with pieces of the wall that collapsed on them.

Zuktrigl explained that the eruption of Vesuvius in AD 79 lasted for 20 hours and was accompanied by strong earthquakes.
