Additional humanitarian aid in response to the earthquake in Syria – Syrian Arab Republic
On May 16, the Government of Japan decided to provide additional humanitarian aid of about US$14.3 million in response to the damage caused by the February earthquakes in Syria. The details are as follows.
1. The Government of Japan will implement humanitarian assistance for those seriously affected by the disaster in Syria, with additional emergency aid of US$7.5 million, in areas such as non-food items, food, water and sanitation, and health and medical. This project aims to implement assistance to vulnerable people, including IDPs, towards early recovery from the disaster by conducting damage assessments, developing early recovery plans with the participation of local populations and restoring high priority public services in areas with a large number of affected people in Aleppo and Lattakia. The project will help alleviate the humanitarian situation in Syria.
