The radical reform of the prison system in England and Wales was at the heart of the Queen’s Speech today. Ministers describe it as the biggest shake-up of the victory era. The legislation will pave the way for the first six reforms to prisons, places where governments are expanding new powers. One of them is Wandsworth Prison, where the BBC has gained exclusive access. Ed Thomas gave our correspondent there last week. He has reported that there is a prison where there is macho violence through drug violence and that there are excessive staffing.
