A massive earthquake struck Java, Indonesia. It measured 6.5 on the Richter scale and struck off the coast of the Indonesian island. The earthquake was felt in central Java as well as in Yogyakarta.

The depth of the earthquake was 25 kilometers or 15 miles. The Badan Meterologi Klimatologi, dan Geofisika, or BMKG, the country’s geophysics agency, said the quake was of medium magnitude. Fortunately, no reports of injuries have surfaced.

Abdul Mahari, spokesperson for Indonesia’s disaster agency, stated that it is currently conducting a damage assessment of homes in Kebumen district as well as Gunung Kidul district. No tsunami warnings were issued.
