Magnitude 3.8 earthquake rocks the Los Angeles area

An earthquake measuring 3.8 on the Richter scale struck off the coast of Malibu, California, early Sunday morning.

The USGS reported that the quake occurred at 2:29 a.m. Pacific time, about 12 miles offshore and was felt in cities across the region.

The earthquake was initially reported as 4.1, but it was later downgraded.

The shaking can be felt as far away as Anaheim and Long Beach, according to a USGS map.

The earthquake frayed nerves, but there were no immediate reports of damage.

“Earthquake” went viral all morning on Twitter, with people in the area sharing stories.

“Wilb, that woke me up. I felt an earthquake in Long Beach, California,” one person tweeted.

“I couldn’t sleep last night, finally got sleepy, then a quick earthquake woke me up around 2A lol why mother nature why?” someone else tweeted.

“So funny. Woke up in my bed shaking in Woodland Hills. #Earthquake LA Do whatever you want!” another person tweeted.

World-renowned seismologist Dr. Lucy Jones added on Twitter that the quake occurred in the depths of the Pacific Ocean.

“The earthquake this morning was offshore and unusually deep for SoCal at about 30 km deep. And no, none of this information tells us anything about what’s going to happen next. Like any earthquake, there’s a small chance it will happen,” Jones wrote on Twitter. Percent only lead to something else.
