Indonesia: cases rise and rise as Jokowi warns of second wave of Covid-19
JAKARTA, July 28 (Xinhua): The number of Covid-19 cases in Indonesia increased by 1,748 in one day to 102,051, with the death toll rising from 63 to 4,901, the health ministry said on Tuesday. .
According to the ministry, 2,366 more people were discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of cured patients to 60,539.
The virus has spread to all 34 provinces of the country and the ministry also said the number of suspected cases across the country was 46,648.
Meanwhile, 36,611 patients infected with the coronavirus are currently under medical treatment.

Indonesian President Joko Widodo warned the population on Tuesday of a possible second wave of Covid-19 transmission.
The warning came amid the resurgence of the virus in some foreign countries after lockdowns eased and business reopened.
Jokowi, as the president commonly referred to, called on the authorities to maintain and step up precautionary measures in the face of the threat.
“We need to be vigilant about the possibility of a second wave and anticipate it,” Jokowi said at a limited cabinet meeting.
The threat came after the head of state communicated the country’s convincing economic growth prospects with an estimate of 5.4% next year, as predicted by the International Monetary Fund.
“I think this is a high growth projection, and if it comes to fruition, it suggests that our economy will accelerate at the fastest rate of global economic expansion,” he said.
Indonesia recently eased restrictions applied to curb the spread of the virus, as well as the resumption of business activities and the reopening of tourist destinations under strict health protocols.
The spread of the Covid-19 virus in Indonesia has been afloat with daily cases reaching over 1,500, emboldened by the expansion of red zones or high risk areas, still optimistic about the vaccine’s availability for use early next year helped offset the concern, according to the Covid-19 task force.
The number of red zones rose to 53 this week from 35 last week and the number of orange zones rose to 185 this week from 169 a week earlier, the country’s Covid-19 task force announced on Monday. – Xinhua
