Witnesses of Baltimore bridge collapse describe 'earthquake'

A Baltimore resident described how the horrific collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge early Tuesday morning made his entire house feel like it was collapsing, as part of the 1.9-mile-long bridge crashed into the river.

The man, called John, said the impact of the crash just after 1.30am “sounded like a big sound of thunder”.

John, who lives nearby, said he felt his home shake when a freight ship struck a Baltimore bridge Tuesday morning. WJZ-TV

“And then, like I said, it felt like an earthquake — the whole house shook, like my house was collapsing,” he told WJZ.

He added that he then heard gunfire and police forces rushed to the scene.
