5.3 Earthquake hits Chamba in Himachal Pradesh

A 5.3 magnitude earthquake struck Chamba city in Himachal Pradesh this evening. Residents felt strong tremors throughout the city and in Manali, which is about 100 kilometers from Chamba. No major damage has been reported so far.

The National Seismological Center said that the earthquake struck the city of Chamba at 9:34 pm, at a depth of 10 kilometers.

“I felt very strong tremors in Manali. It lasted for about seven seconds,” said Divyanshu, a Manali resident.

“I felt a strong tremor that lasted for a few seconds. When I was thinking of going downstairs, the earthquakes stopped,” Chandigarh resident Sanjay Kumar told PTI.
