Israel's top general says Iran is retaliating despite calls for restraint | BBC News

Israel's top general has given the clearest indication yet that the country will retaliate against Iran after a massive missile and drone attack. General Herzi Halevi, the IDF chief of staff, said that “firing so many missiles, cruise missiles and drones into Israeli territory will have a response.” It is not yet clear what form that response will take. The US has called the attack on Iran a “spectacular failure”. About 300 missiles and drones were fired at Israel, but almost all of them were shot down or failed to hit their targets. A few avoided the air defenses, but caused little damage. President Biden and other national leaders have called on Israel to show restraint and avoid escalation. They fear the crisis could lead to a wider war in the region. The White House has told Israel that the US will not participate in or support a counterattack against Iran.
