A 2.6 magnitude earthquake hits Lake County early Saturday morning

An early morning earthquake was felt near Madison in Lake County on Saturday morning, the US Geological Survey said.

It happened just after 6 a.m. at a recorded depth of 3.1 miles below the surface.

The Ohio Department of Statewide Transportation's press secretary said the traffic camera on Interstate 90 at State Route 528 shook when the quake struck.

Earthquakes of magnitude 2.5 to 5 are considered minor and can usually be felt but do not cause much damage. The stronger the earthquake, the more noticeable the earthquake.

A 3.0 magnitude earthquake was recorded in Lake County in late March.
