BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — California's earthquake early warning system has gotten a major upgrade.

Residents will now be able to get more timely alerts before a major earthquake strikes.

In previous years, hundreds of seismic sensors embedded in the ground measured earthquake activity. However, once a 7.0 magnitude earthquake occurs, these sensors will become submerged, delaying an accurate reading.
