Two more quakes fall into 'swarm' of recent seismic activity off Vancouver Island

According to Earthquakes Canada, an area about 200 kilometres off the coast of Vancouver Island is currently experiencing a series of earthquakes.

They say this occurs at the intersection of the northern Juan de Fuca mountain range, the Suvanco fault zone, and the Nootka fault zone.

Since the beginning of July, 11 significant earthquakes have occurred in a specific area of ​​the Pacific Ocean.

The last two incidents occurred around 8 a.m. on Thursday, July 11.

The first was a 6.4 magnitude quake, meaning it was large enough to be felt on Vancouver Island, but mild and did not cause any damage.

This earthquake occurred approximately 208 kilometers off Port Alice at a depth of 10 kilometers below sea level.

Although this was a major seismic event, Earthquakes Canada says a tsunami is not expected.

The second quake struck about half an hour later at 8:35 a.m., according to the Canadian Earthquake Centre.

This earthquake occurred close to the first earthquake, about 194 kilometers off the coast of Port Alice, and was also recorded at a depth of 10 kilometers.

The Canadian Earthquake Service says no one reported feeling the quake, which measured only 4.3 on the Richter scale.

This earthquake will not cause a tsunami either, according to Earthquakes Canada.
