Said Iqbal appointed presidential advisor for labor
Ntvnews.idJakarta – Chairman of the Confederation of All Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPSI) Andi Gani Nena Wea responded to the announcement that Labor Party Chairman Said Iqbal would join Prabowo Subianto’s government. Andi Gani admitted that he knew that Said Iqbal would be appointed presidential advisor on manpower. Said Iqbal would have been appointed president the next day.
“Not long ago, I received information that KSPI Chairman Bung Said Iqbal would be appointed as Presidential Advisor for Manpower and of course I gave him my full support,” said Andi Gani, Sunday, June 7, 2026.
Andi Gani also believes that if it is true that Said Iqbal enters the government, it will be a good synergy. Because it supports the workers’ struggle.
“This is an extraordinary synergy between union leaders who choose to be part of the circle of power and union leaders who choose not to be part of the government to support each other in the struggle of Indonesian workers,” he said.
Andi Gani also said that he was offered the position of chairman of the Ministerial Labor Protection Council. He admitted that since the administration of the 7th President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), he was asked to enter the cabinet, but chose to stay outside the government.
“Initially, I was asked to become the chairman of the Labor Welfare Council at the ministerial level. At that time, I explained that since the Pak Jokowi era, I had been asked to enter the Cabinet to manage employment, but from the beginning, I was committed to fully devoting myself as a labor president, so I explained to President Prabowo that I chose to stay outside the government while maintaining good relations with the government,” said Andi Gani.
“Around May 1, I was informed that a labor figure had been selected to enter the cabinet, namely Bung Jumhur Hidayat and I immediately expressed my full support for Bung Jumhur and also gave a message that the idealism of the workers’ struggle should not be abandoned even if he had entered the government,” he added.
He said Prabowo could understand his considerations. Andi Gani also believes that the trade unionists who enter the government will not abandon their struggle straight away.
“I also explained my choice directly to President Prabowo and the president understands. I am convinced that the union figures who enter the government will not abandon their love and support for the workers’ struggle,” he said.
