This is WYFF 4 News today. Coming soon, Pickens County parents raise awareness about drug dangers and the Georgia Bulldogs take on the Clemson Tigers in Atlanta. We have a recap of the game. Good morning, I'm Peyton Furtado. Thanks so much for joining us here on Sunday morning. 7 a.m. Let's take a look at our weather. This is a live view from our Lake Hartwell Skycam. Great skies today. 72 degrees. It's a beautiful morning. If you're getting ready, we have Sidney Sullivan in the studio with us to give us a little more detail on our temperatures. Sidney, how should people dress today? How should they prepare? Well, I will say that today is going to be a great day to get out on the water. The Lake Hartwell Skycam looks great. I'll be there in a few hours. Very excited to get back on the water, but the weather is coming with heat, humidity and some patchy fog this morning, especially in western North Carolina. We expect visibility to be significantly reduced in those locations, even in areas like Hartwell, Elberton, and even Union and parts of Spartanburg. We're also seeing some patchy fog. So, be careful not to drive fast if you’re on the roads this morning. Otherwise, conditions will be nice and dry. We’re looking at some additional clouds coming in from the west and northwest, but it’s going to be dry for the Carolinas and Georgia, at least for now. Now, as far as our temperatures go, we’re sitting pretty similar to where we were yesterday, basically looking at temperatures in the high 60s to low 70s. This morning. So it’s relatively comfortable, but you’re going to see the humidity pick up again this afternoon. We’re going to see temperatures climb back into the upper 80s, into the 90s again. The humidity is going to make it a little bit warmer out and about today. So try to stay cool. Stay hydrated. You should also keep a close eye on the radar for the weather forecast, as we’re going to see a chance for scattered showers and storms starting to develop. Once we move into the afternoon and evening, there’s going to be a chance for showers and storms at times, so that could impact some of your plans for Sunday. The good news is this event won’t last all day, but I’ll take a closer look at the latest timing of these storms and the best time to get out. Peyton. Thank you. Sydney, We got some breaking news out of Greenville this morning where one teenager was killed and another was injured after a shooting. Officials say the shooting happened just before 10:30 last night at the Mulberry Court Apartments. Police arrived and said they found two people with gunshot wounds. One is a 16-year-old with non-life threatening injuries and the other is a 17-year-old in critical condition. We now know that the 17-year-old has died in hospital from his injuries early this morning. They have been identified as Andre Nicholson. Officials say an 18-year-old suspect is in custody. Investigators believe this case involved a fight between these teens and that they all knew each other. We are getting more information. We are working to confirm everything for you. Now. We’re also following some breaking news out of Anderson County, where officials say at least one person has died in a shooting. Law enforcement responded overnight to an address on Black Street in Honea Trail. The coroner confirmed they also responded, but that’s all we know at this point. Stay tuned live and online as we work to learn more. And the latest from Greenville County. The coroner has identified a woman who died in a crash. Troopers say it happened last night around 7:00 a.m. on Jordan Road. A Kia Sorento was traveling northbound before going off the side of the road, hitting several trees and then overturning. Troopers say the driver died at the scene. The coroner has identified the driver as 88-year-old Janie Mae Thomas of Greer. In Pickens County, the coroner has identified another person who died in a crash. According to the coroner, 29-year-old Jesse Posey was riding a motorcycle on Highway 178 near Maldon Lake Road on August 6. He hit a deer and then veered off the left side of the road before hitting an embankment. Posey was taken to the hospital but died of his injuries yesterday. In North Carolina, the Yancey County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man in connection with a fatal shooting Friday. Deputies say Roy Elkins was shot and killed on Price Creek Road in Burnsville. According to officials, Grant Blankenship was arrested after the shooting and charged with involuntary manslaughter. Last year, more than 107,000 people died from drug overdoses. Yesterday, parents in the area raised awareness in Pickens County about the issue. They’re called the Foothill Fentanyl Fight Group. They hosted a vigil at the Pickens County Courthouse and parents of overdose victims came together to raise awareness about the dangers of drugs. It’s a growing problem here in South Carolina. According to the county’s health department. In 2022, nearly 2,300 people died from overdoses in the state. That’s a 6% increase from 2021. Opioid deaths are up 5%. Fentanyl deaths are up 9%. People who have lost their lives to this fentanyl epidemic, because it really is an epidemic. These are a group of people who have not been able to tell their stories themselves. So, we’re here to tell their stories on their behalf and let them know that their families are fighting for a reason for change. And we’re demanding something bigger than them. We have more information at the link to that group on WYFF 4.COM, and in Spartanburg, the Upstate Animal Rescue released geese back into the wild yesterday after an incredible journey back to health. We have Jamie Reed who has their story. We released geese that were covered in oil or covered in petroleum from Spartanburg County. This family of geese was rehabilitated at the Bulls Animal Rescue Center and was released back into the wild to the mother with her young that they grew this season. And it’s a joy to see them fly and get out into the water. They were found in a mud puddle in Spartanburg, covered in oil, getting in a mud puddle, being exposed to anything that could cause their wings to stiffen and they can’t fly. That greatly impairs their ability to live their normal lives. It’s a federal crime to harm any migratory bird. Under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, people need to understand that the smallest mistakes we make can be very detrimental to these guys. They tell us it took 5 to 6 weeks of work to get them back to health. It’s sad to see some animals come in with horrific injuries or situations that need attention, and it’s not always a good story. It’s not always a good ending. This was the best ending. Now that the geese are free, the job is done. Calls will be taken for anything that needs help. We don’t turn away any animals. To see this family able to continue their lives the way they were meant to in the wild, in nature, is a blessing. And that’s what Jamie Reed reports for us. People living in Anderson have reason to celebrate this weekend, because this weekend marks the 25th annual Anderson Celebration. Now, the event features free concerts and fireworks at the William Floyd Amphitheater over Labor Day weekend. This is the first time the event has been held over two nights. Gates open today at 5:30. Today at . For the record, we’re talking about women in politics and women’s voting. Policy and public policy consultant Michelle Macrina and executive public speaking coach Deb Sofield. Join Jen Robillot to discuss the obstacles women often face when they want to run for office. There was a bill just last session that passed the House, a bipartisan bill to help pay for child care with campaign funds. It died in the Senate. So it has to start over now. Statewide or national? Statewide? National. You can actually use campaign funds to pay for child care. So that’s one thing. Join us this morning at 11:30 for the full conversation on women and voting

One important advantage is the speed at which information is sent and received. With the help of the internet, the shopping habits of many persons have drastically changed. The car insurance industry hasn't remained untouched by these changes. On the internet, drivers can compare insurance prices and find out which sellers have the best offers. View photos The advantages of comparing online car insurance quotes are the following: Online quotes can be obtained from anywhere and at any time. Unlike physical insurance agencies, websites don't have a specific schedule and they are available at any time. Drivers that have busy working schedules, can compare quotes from anywhere and at any time, even at midnight. Multiple choices. Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence. Online quotes will allow policyholders the chance to discover multiple insurance companies and check their prices. Drivers are no longer required to get quotes from just a few known insurance companies. Also, local and regional insurers can provide lower insurance rates for the same services. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history. Lying about past driving incidents can make the price estimates to be lower, but when dealing with an insurance company lying to them is useless. Usually, insurance companies will do research about a potential customer before granting him coverage. Online quotes can be sorted easily. Although drivers are recommended to not choose a policy just based on its price, drivers can easily sort quotes by insurance price. Using brokerage websites will allow drivers to get quotes from multiple insurers, thus making the comparison faster and easier.
