6.6 A strong earthquake hits the province of Guanacaste in Costa Rica

Yesterday, a strong earthquake shook the province of Guanacaste at around 11:43 a.m. The Costa Rica Volcano and Seismology Observatory (OVSICORI) reported that the earthquake had a magnitude of 6.6, and its epicenter was 60 kilometers west of Tamarindo.

OVSICORI later reported a second earthquake at 12:12 p.m., with a magnitude of 5.2 and its epicenter in the same place. Through social media, Costa Ricans shared their reports, which showed that they felt the earthquake in different regions of the country.

The National Tsunami Monitoring System (SINAMOT) has ruled out any tsunami threat from these events.
