MIAMI – When earthquakes rocked Cuba on Sunday, only a few people in Miami felt them.

Social media users quickly shared videos showing the local aftermath of the quake, but a Miami city spokeswoman said Monday that there was “no cause for concern” to report in terms of damage or injuries.

Miami rescue teams responded to three earthquake calls on Sunday: one downtown, and two in the Brickell area, said Kenya Vallat, a spokeswoman for the city of Miami. People who called were concerned about potential danger, but no injuries were reported.

“There's nothing to worry about,” Flatt said.

To quell any panic, the city issued a statement yesterday telling residents that the U.S. Geological Survey had not detected any earthquakes or aftershocks in South Florida and that there was “no cause for concern.”

Flatt said the city is aware of videos posted on social media depicting the tremors, but the city has not been able to verify the authenticity of those videos.

“There have been about two dozen earthquakes of magnitude 5.5 or larger in that area over the past decades, but that doesn't mean it's a common enough event that people experiencing it feel like it's a regular occurrence,” Dara Goldberg of the USGS told NBC6 in South Florida.

Videos posted on social media from residents of communities across Miami show the effects of the tremors, as shadows slowly sway and chandelier on high-rise coastal buildings.

At 12:07 p.m. Sunday, Miami meteorologist Jeff Van Fleet shared a user video of Edgewater showing mild shaking moments after the 6.5 magnitude quake struck.
