OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – A 3.1 magnitude earthquake struck southeast of Sparks early Friday morning, shaking the area near Oklahoma City briefly.

The US Geological Survey (USGS) said the quake occurred at 12:14 a.m. local time, and was centered about 8 kilometers southeast of Sparks and at a depth of 5 kilometers. Residents near Oklahoma City and in Lincoln County felt mild tremors, according to the Did You Feel It? platform.

This event comes after another earthquake Thursday evening near Edmond, northeast of Oklahoma City. The earthquake had a magnitude of 2.6 and a depth of 6.6 km. The epicenter of the earthquake was 5 kilometers east-northeast of Edmond, near the outskirts of the city.

No damage or injuries were reported as a result of either earthquake. Oklahoma remains one of the most seismically active states, with frequent small earthquakes associated with oil and gas production activities. Experts remind residents to remain prepared to face possible tremors by securing heavy objects and preparing emergency tools.
