Foreign Minister: A Chinese medical team helps victims of the Vanuatu earthquake, and the death of two Chinese nationals is confirmed

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian expressed China's deep sympathy with Vanuatu over the earthquake disaster that struck Vanuatu during a press conference held on Wednesday. Lin pointed out that two Chinese citizens were confirmed dead and two others were injured in the earthquake.
We hope and believe that the government and people of Vanuatu will get through this difficult time and that life and work will return to normal as soon as possible. Lin noted that the Chinese medical team in Vanuatu is actively helping to treat the injured in the local hospital.
A Chinese company there voluntarily provided machinery to help with earthquake relief work, which was welcomed by the local government and people. He added that China will remain in close contact with the Vanuatu government and provide timely support for earthquake relief efforts.
Following the earthquake, the Chinese Embassy in Vanuatu checked with various sources the safety of Chinese citizens in Vanuatu and coordinated with local rescue and relief teams to make comprehensive rescue efforts, according to the spokesman.
So far, two Chinese citizens have been killed and two others injured in the earthquake. Our embassy has sent personnel to the scene and we will do everything we can to assist in efforts to save lives, treat the injured and make appropriate arrangements for the deceased.
Lin said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and our embassy in Vanuatu will continue to follow up rescue and relief efforts and provide protection and consular assistance to Chinese citizens and Chinese institutions in Vanuatu.

Earlier, it was reported that two Chinese nationals were among the deceased in the earthquake that struck Vanuatu, and they were tentatively identified as Chinese nationals or people of Chinese origin from eastern China's Fujian Province.
