The US House of Representatives has voted against a funding measure backed by Donald Trump, bringing the government shutdown one step closer. The revised spending plan failed to win the required two-thirds majority in the lower house of Congress, and 38 Republicans voted against the bill Thursday night, defying the president-elect. After the bill failed by a vote of 174 to 235, House Speaker Mike Johnson, a Republican, said he would find another solution before government funding expires at midnight Friday. The replacement bill approved by Trump would tie government funding to a two-year moratorium on the federal debt limit, which determines how much the government can borrow to pay its bills.
