Reader opinion: It's time to prepare for an earthquake

It's that time again.

Maybe you remember your high school typing test.

So that all good citizens come to help their country.

It is the transition between government leaders and the right time to make proposals.

I've learned that when citizens make suggestions we'll never hear about again, it only means a few things.

The idea was ridiculous. – Did not contribute to a political campaign. The idea was ridiculously good, and it's being held back until such time as someone else can claim it for themselves as political gain.

The folks at FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) really care about the procedures that take place after an accident. Kudos to them for helping people pick up the pieces.

But what is expected – “following the science” – is an earthquake. Just like all other earthquakes on the geologic timeline. Except now there were more people and the impossible fear of coming to their rescue in time… if at all.

Since the Army Corps of Engineers is moving tribes to higher ground now, and emergency preparedness personnel are also waiting to respond publicly, I would like to make a suggestion. One that will only take a grant writer for the city of Edmonds some time and go beyond the political controversy.

All property taxpayers will be issued/equipped with an emergency first aid kit provided by FEMA personnel. now.

The goal is to reduce response time in the event of a major event, and to standardize supplies so that any training, questions, or discussions are standardized.

These groups can be a military issue so as not to create political debates about who the suppliers should be. They will actually be screened through the materials process.
