Maine: Another earthquake reported off the coast of York Port Wednesday morning

Wednesday's earthquake occurred on the same 3.8 earthquake site on Monday.

York, Min – A small earthquake was reported off the coast of York Port Wednesday morning, two days after one larger in a similar place.

An earthquake of 2.0 size at 3:15 am on Wednesday, 6 miles southeast of York Port, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS). This happened on the same 3.8 earthquake site on Monday.

A earthquake can feel Monday morning in most of New Hampshire, south and west of Maine, East Massachusetts, and even Rod Island and parts of Connecticut, according to an interactive map of USGs.

Meteorologists at the news center in Maine said that the earthquake on Wednesday was a final tremor of the Monday earthquake. Usgs determines the final tremors as a sequence of earthquakes that occur after a larger major plan is wrong.

Dr. John Il, Professor of Geophysics at Boston College, explained the movement of tectonic paintings, including the North American painting, on which Maine focuses on the seismic event on Monday.

“The pressure accumulates and eventually explodes – those breaks are what we get as an earthquake,” said Ebel.

Although the two earthquake was simple and did not cause significant damage, it raised questions about the extent of Maine's willingness to a stronger event.

According to EBEL, a larger earthquake, such as one size 5.0 or higher, can cause structural damage, such as cracks in buildings. In addition, it warns of possible secondary risks such as gas leakage.
