Athens, Greece – The latest hundreds of earthquakes rocked the Greek Santorini volcanic island on Tuesday after its strongest so far with the size of 5.3. The medical staff has organized hospital evacuation exercises where scientists say it is unclear whether the very unusual seismic activity precedes a larger earthquake.

Many earthquakes ranging between 4 and 4.8 and hit Tuesday with the center's vehicles between the Amugos and Santorini Islands, one of the most tourist destinations in Greece.

Last week, the authorities announced the state of emergency in Santorini, as the continuous seismic activity prompted the deployment of rescue sets with drones and an infiltrated dog and put the coast guard and marine ships on the preparation mode.

Thousands of residents and visitors left the island, while schools were ordered in Santorini and the nearby islands to stay closed for this week.

The Deputy Minister of Health Marius Themestoklius said that specialized doctors had been sent to Santorini Hospital, where tents were created in the courtyard as a preventive measure. The medical staff practiced evacuation exercises, running outside while wheel inscriptions with people who demonstrate as a patient.

Scientists were closely monitoring the swarm of the earthquake and volcanoes in the area. They say it is unclear whether dozens of earthquakes are every day – ranging from 3 to 5 size approximately 5 or above – will grow or last for several weeks or months.

Seismologists and volcanic scholars met with government officials on Tuesday evening as part of regular discussions on the situation.
