Check the truth: These pictures of destruction are not from the Delhi earthquake

People in Delhi NCR woke up to strong tremors on Monday (17 February) in the morning. The earthquake center was in Dawala Kwan in Delhi. A few hours later, another earthquake of the same size was hit.

Two pictures of partially collapsed multi -storey buildings are on social media. It claims that it shows the subsequent effects of the Delhi earthquake. These photos were shared on Facebook, Instagram and X.

India's truth today found that both pictures are old and have nothing to do with the last earthquake in Delhi-NCR.

Our investigation

With the help of searching for reverse images, we found one picture in the Hindustan Times News report, which was published on November 9, 2015. The severe damage to the structure led to the evacuation of its passengers. No victims were reported.

We found the other image in a Facebook post from 2021. The image was also used in many earthquakes.

A similar image was also used in an article in a Turkish magazine called Cornucopia. The article was about the earthquake, northwestern Türkiye, on August 17, 1999, killing at least 17,000 people.

Although we were unable to confirm that the image was from Türkiye, it is clear that it was old.

It is worth noting that no victims or harm were reported after the last Delhi earthquake. According to some reports, a 20-25-year-old tree was uprooted at Jheel Park at Dhaula Kuan.
