A 5.1 earthquake in the Bay of Bengal rocked Odisha and parts of Western Bengal, including the capital, Kolkata, on Tuesday morning. The earthquake was hit near Buri Odisha at 6.10 am. However, no loss of lives or property damage was reported.

The tremors felt the earthquake in several places, including Birhambur, Balasur, Kotak and Popneswar in Odisha. With the fall of Odisha in the area exposed to moderate earthquakes, the 5.1 earthquake caught the size of people. The tremors lasted for about a minute.

“I felt the waves, as my room was shaking at 6:12 am in Rarkilla,” Tweet, one of Odisha's residents. Another user said, “I felt an earthquake in Cuttack, I was asleep and would wake up by shaking the bed,” said another user.

The tremors were also perceived in the neighboring Kolka. “The earthquake's hair in Colkata. Very big jerk. Did anyone's hair too?” One posted on X.
