5.8 Capacity earthquake shakes the Turkish coast

Ankara, Türkiye – Officials said an earthquake reached 5.8 years rocked a coastal town in Türkiye on Tuesday, causing panic among the population. Dozens were reported after jumping from windows or balconies to get out of their homes while a teenager died after being transferred to the hospital.

No significant damage was reported.

The Presidency of Disaster and Emergency said that the earthquake was hit at 2:17 am and focused in the Mediterranean, outside the holiday resort in Mararis. He was perceived in the neighboring areas, including on the Greek island of Rhodes, and woke up from their sleep.

Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said to X that a 14 -year -old girl had been transferred to the hospital and died there after he said it was an anxiety. It was not known if she had any basic conditions.

He said that nearly 70 people were treated due to injuries after jumping from windows or balconies in a state of panic. He added that there were no reports of damage to buildings.
