5 5.2 Earthquake abroad disturbed Greece

The authorities said an earthquake of 5.2 -magnitude struck the Greek island of Ayoubia early on Tuesday and felt strongly in Athens.

The Greek Capital Institute at the National Observatory of Athens said that the earthquake was hit at 00:30 local time (2130 GMT), 45 km (28 miles) northeast of the Greek capital.

The institute said that the earthquake center was four kilometers from the NEA Styra Resort in the southwest of EUBOEA, the second largest island in Greece.

There were no immediate reports on losses or damage.

The nearby marathon mayor, Stirgius Tesirkas, described the earthquake as “very intense”, in comments on ERT TV.

In May, a strong earthquake in size struck 6.1 Greek islands of Crete and felt the extent of Egypt as well as in the Greek capital.

In January and February, Santorini's island in the Aegean Sea, a major Greek tourist destination, suffered from exceptional seismic activity.
